Twelve Month Well Baby Check-up

Someone should have warned me that this appointment was going to be slightly traumatic for mommy.  Andrew enjoyed playing, running, and climbing all over the exam room and enjoyed Dr. Ghebriel.  He got his teeth painted (fluoride treatment) and then the pain came... he had six shots in his legs and his blood drawn.  The first two shots were okay, but by the fifth and sixth ones he was shaking with anger, bright red, and shrieking.  It took him over ten minutes to calm down.  Mommy is still not calm.  The blood draw (to check to make sure our old house isn't giving him lead poisoning) was much easier and only produced a baby cry and no tears.

Andrew's crazy amount of food intake has finally produced some weight gain.  He's over the 23 pound mark and a "tall" boy!

Color Run 5K

We started off with crisp white shirts and hats!
Yesterday Andrew, Melissa and I participated in my third 5K of 2012!  This one was probably the most fun I'll have all year.  The Color Run is a national organization that puts on these colorfests all across the US to raise money for local charities.

The "SoCal" race was in Irvine and raised money for the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Orange County.  With almost 10,000 runners, it was a bit nuts.  The 9 am race was sold out and they opened 5,000 more spots for noon (and that one sold out too), so we were able to take our time in the morning and get there with time to take in the full scene.
Basically it is a 5k where you get splattered with color at each kilometer.
First up was yellow and we thought we had a TON of color on us
(yeah, right, very little in hindsight).

Also, for the concerned parties, Andrew was completely covered during the "color zones" with just his little bitty feet showing.  The "color" you see on him at the finish was strategically placed by mommy and Aunt Melissa.
Second was green and the volunteers were a bit more agressive.
We got it on our face and in our ears--pretty funny.
At this point, Andrew decided to start licking his green toes (thus the green mouth upcoming).
Third was blue and we were COVERED!
It doesn't help that it was darker than the yellow and green.
Andrew giggled when a volunteer at the end of the color zone sprinkled his toes with blue!
The last stop on the race path was pink; thankfully our favorite because the volunteers went a bit nuts with the throwing.  Note Andrew's cute feet and the bottom on the stroller!
At the finish line, everyone shared their color packets with the air and took turns covering each other. We didn't have any purple, so I asked a girl to share with us :)

Twelve Month Sticker Pictures

Thank goodness this is our last set of sticker pictures because it is getting harder and harder to get him to sit still.  If we're on the bed, he stands up to JUMP onto the pillows and if we're on the chair he tried to figure out how to rock it as hard as he can.  Needless to say, my son is a mover and a shaker!

 Reflective Andrew.
"Yes, I am One!!!"
 And we're up again...

 Fish face!
I'd also like to point out that he has the same onesie on in this picture as he has for month 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11.

Just a normal day

Andrew is obsessed with his shoes when they aren't on his feet!
These pictures were after church on Sunday.
running at mommy to show her my shoes
 looking up at daddy
Daddy has me, but here's my shoe mom!
What you don't see if Andrew wacking Dave with his shoe...
Andrew and Mommy thought it was kinda funny, Dad... not so much.

Little Gym

Our little climber needs a place to climb and explore without getting hurt, so I looked into Little Gym.  They have "classes" designed for his age so we signed up for a sample class.  It took him a little while to warm up, but once he did, he thought it was the best thing in the world.
Thanks to Aunt Nicole and Grandma Linda, Andrew is signed up for the summer semester as his birthday present!
He'll get to go with Mommy for twelve weeks.

Andrew's Birthday Party

On April 7, we had Andrew's barnyard birthday party!

Thanks to Brenda, we have over 300 pictures of the day (which is great because I didn't take a single picture during the actual party).
Dave found a gentleman who would rent us these adorable baby chicks for the kids to pet.
We had 11 kids come to celebrate Andrew--as you can tell from the pictures,
they are one good looking group!
The older group (3-4 year olds) consisted of Brendan, Brandon, Sammy, Anna, and Shawn.
The younger group (1 years olds) was Brook, Ivy, Caleb, Nathan, and Andrew (as the youngest).
Racing horses was pretty darn funny!
All the the food had its own barnyard name, but the desserts were my favorite.
The kids participated in a chicken egg hunt in the chicken coup that Dave built.  The kids then turned in their eggs at the General Store for prizes!
Thirty adults overwhelmed us with love for Andrew.
Andrew's great grandparents were able to come which was a very special treat.
Although there was no major smashing and very little eating going on,
Andrew had fun with his very own HUGE cupcake!
It was SO hot that we moved both of the pop-ups to the front yard and put them right next to the front porch.  With shade we were able to open presents and eat cupcakes!  Andrew was spoiled by his friends and family!

I had originally worried about it raining and had a back-up plan in case the forecast called for rain. I did not expect it to be 93 degrees (the hotest day of the year so far), but we made the best of it and still had a great time. The kids had rosy cheeks and sunscreen made an appearance early on. A few of the games I had planned were put on the back burner because it was so stinkin' hot!

Special Birthday Dinner

On Andrew's actual birthday he went to daycare (see the pictures from yesterday) and then we came home and had a special dinner with some friends and family.
He is super into his new birthday toys.
Aunt Melissa, Desiree, Larissa, and Audrey came over to share fajitas.  Andrew's current favorite food is beans, so he had a dinner of black beans, corn, cheese, and peaches.
Audrey wasn't able to come to Andrew's birthday party on Saturday, so we played some of the barnyard games and made a barn frame.
Andrew had another stab at eating a cupcake.  He was pretty interested in the piggy nose and ears. After poking at it for awhile, he picked up the entire thing and started licking it.
Although we had high hopes that he's actually smash it into his face, it didn't last long.  Pretty quickly, Andrew started giving away his cupcake and feeding it to Aunt Melissa and Reese.
 Giving Audrey a kiss!

Andrew's Promotion

Andrew's birthday was his last day in room one at The Growing Place.  As I have talked about before, it is bittersweet.  The room one teachers have been amazing and we love them.  Andrew is clearly attached and Mommy is totally impressed with everything about them.  I teared up when I picked him up on Monday because he moves to a new room.

 Ms. Jennifer
 Ms. LeeAnn
 Ms. Cindy

I didn't get a picture of everyone with Andrew, but he also had Ms. Simone, Ms. Nancy, Ms. Stephanie, and Ms. Denise as his room one teachers.
